Welcome to StayAfrica.org
StayAfrica! (previously known as SASTS Working Adventures) was set up in 1972 to provide affordable travel opportunities for South African students. It was the travel division of NUSAS, the National Union of South African Students, whose activities took root in the days of Apartheid. We have played an integral role in facilitating student and youth travel for over 40 years and are well-equipped to help students realise their travel dreams. We have achieved this by working with reputable and internationally-recognised partners, and being members of international travel associations. StayAfrica! programs are run in accordance with guidelines put in place by these international organisations. Over the past 15 years, StayAfrica! has branched out to include exciting opportunities for foreign travellers to experience South Africa by implementing Work South Africa, Volunteer South Africa, High School Exchange, and group travel programs in South Africa.
Project and Volunteers
There are a vast number of interesting volunteer projects available and most of them are located in in the beautiful city of Cape Town and its surrounding local communities. Volunteers can make a valuable contribution in many different facets of childcare, teaching, social, environmental and medical placements in and around Cape Town. Whilst on our Volunteer Program, participants will live at our StayAfrica! volunteer house, located in the popular bohemian suburb of Observatory, located approximately 10mins drive from the city centre. They also have the option of living with one of our awesome host families, in the local community – this option does mean you’ll be a little further from the city centre, however, you will gain a much greater immersion into South African local culture and cuisine. As a not for profit organisation run by staff from local communities, we have extensive knowledge of the various communities of Cape Town and South Africa – this enables us to offer first-hand experience and advice to anyone volunteering in the relevant areas. StayAfrica! programs will provide a real insight into Cape Town’s culture, history, landscape through orientation and local community placement, and provide the opportunity for genuine interaction with the local people.
