I was a volunteer and worked in a day care centre in Cape Town. It broke my heart when I had to leave again. This experience really changed everything. It was the first time for me that I travelled so far, and that I traveled alone. But I regret nothing and would recommend it to everyone. Just do it, even if you are afraid! The work with the children didn’t feel like work at all, I could learn so much from them, just by spending time with them. I grew beyond myself, completed tasks I never thought I could. Beside the work and the amazing people I met there I met many more in the volunteer house. We were such a nice group and spent so much time together and could tell each other so much about our workdays and experiences, also we did a lot of tours and activities together. Our house mum Cassy, did an incredible job. She connected us so well and did definitely more than she had to but she did it with so much love and passion, and she transmitted that to us. I learned so much, and saw so much that I could talk about it for ages. But you should have your own adventure and see and learn all that by yourself. This will definitely not be the only volunteer project in my life.
I was a volunteer for only a few weeks, but it was a great experience even for the short time that I was there. All the people are always there for you if you need some help.
My project in cape town was also really nice, I learned a lot.
If you like to volunteer one day, this organization is perfect because there is a good balance between work and some free time.
I just loved it!
I was a volunteer for 8 weeks. My time in capetown was PERFECT – I will never forget it. I really enjoyed every single moment. To be a volunteer in an elementary school and a kindergarten was so much fun and such a nice and unforgettable experience. I loved to play, to chill, to talk and to care about the kids. The kids are so cute and lovely. All the kids got my heart. I‘m extremely thankful for the chance to be in a kindergarten at a township for one week, too. This was one of my most emotional but also one of my best moments in capetown. My time in Capetown was not only because of the volunteering so perfect. It was also because of the magic of this city. Capetown is amazing. There is so many to do – after 8 weeks there are still a lot of things on my to do list. But all in all the best part of my time in Capetown was to meet all the nice staff members of SASTS. Especially the housedad Noel and Kevin became like family to me. They are caring as much as possible about every single volunteer and doing everything to give everyone a perfect unforgettable time as a volunteer in Capetown.
I definitely will come back!!
So all in all: 5 Stars for SASTS
What a fantastic programme. The accommodation was good, very clean and friendly, great landlord. The volunteering itself was at a crèche central Cape Town the kids were great and all the teachers were very friendly and lots of fun. All the team involved were great every step of the way. From choosing which programme fits to checking in set by step when I was in Cape Town. Highly recommended.
It is a big decision to volunteer in a foreign country – and it can be quite overwhelming to make the right choices when it comes to choosing an organisation. I spent 4 weeks in Cape Town volunteering in a kindergarten and it was a time I will never forget.
Volunteering is an amazing opportunity to learn about a different culture, make new friends from all over the world and try out something completely different to your life at home.
What most impressed me about SASTS was their professionality when it came to the organisation of all the volunteer projects of more than 50 (!!!) volunteers as well as their patience with handling all our problems. Their huge experience with volunteers immediately made me feel safe and taken care of. Furthermore the SASTS team is absolutely amazing so that Kevin and Noel will soon become like family to you, you just can’t help it!
I could go on and on about the awesomeness of this organisation as I really just have good things to say.
If you are considering volunteering in South Africa this is the organisation you wanna go with. 100% recommended!
I was a volunteer for 8 weeks in the child care program and it was one of the best experiences in my life it was so much more then anything i expected ! the kids are the most friendly and loving kids and you definitely learn so much from them !! other then that cape town is just an amazing city and i absolutely fell in love with it and i got to explore so much of it !! the SASTS staff became like a family and i will definitely come back !!
I was a volunteer for 10 weeks and I enjoyed every bit of it! My project place at the kindergarten was perfect for me and I learned a lot. I really felt welcomed and I was also able to give them a helping hand with the kids. The kids are cute and so full of life and energy!
Also I couldn’t have hoped for a better place to stay than in a hostel. That place was my home and the people were like a family to me and I wouldn’t even consider staying anywhere else. I met people all around the world and made lots of new friends. Altogether my time in South Africa was an unforgettable journey that I will never forget!
Ps. Lots of love to Noel and Vee!
and Kevin was also quite cool
I was a volunteer in Capetown for 4 weeks where I worked in the primary school project. It was a great experience working with those lovely children with a completely different cultural background.
Living in the SASTS hostel in Obs and meeting Noel, Kevin and the volunteers was a great pleasure. They always made me feel comfortable and provided help and care whenever needed.
Furthermore, Capetown is a city full of opportunities. Its beautiful beaches, mountains, animals or even the tourist spots made my stay unforgettable.
All in all, working in Capetown was an overwhelming experience and I definitely recommend going there!!
The best 6 weeks in my life, full of places and people I’ll never forget ! Cape Town and SASTS will be always in my heart and I hope I’ll see all of you again soon!
I literally had the best time of my life with SASTS in Cape Town. I would do it again and again. Thanks to all the people I got to know and especially Kevin and Noel (Staff of SASTS). They’re both amazing and I had so much fun with them. I really enjoyed my volunteering with the children (who are too cute) and as well spending my 3 months with lovely people in the hostel which doesn’t even feel like a hostel but more like a home.
You don’t even care about being around people 24/7. For me it is weird now to have a room by myself (miss my roommates). Furthermore they’re very very professional and organised so if you have any problems SASTS solves them for you in like seconds. It all was so easy. So this organisation is highly recommended. I’m definitely coming back to visit you. All in all it became like a 2nd home for me. I miss you!
I was a volunteer in Cape Town for the period of 5 weeks and stayed at the obs hostel. The manager Noel made this experience unforgettable together with all the lovely volunteers from all over the world. Anyone who is interested in volunteering is highly recommended to do so via Sasts.
Kev and Sophie were the best! Thank you for being such amazing people and making my stay the best time of my life! The entire time was so well organized and went very smoothly. I highly recommend using SASTS for your volunteering experience in Cape Town!
Pack your suitcases and book a flight to Cape Town, for this is possibly the most breathtaking city in the whole universe. South Africa owes its beauty to the great variety of cultures you can experience in every corner of this land.
SASTS made my volunteering experience a truly unforgettable one, providing me with assistance every single day. I couldn’t wish for being better taken care of! Both Noel and Kev are golden-hearted people – thoughtful, genuine and undoubtedly professional, with their adroit handling of all the volunteer programs.
All my best regards to the brilliant SASTS team! Keep on spreading the love:)
The kids can be a hand full, however, they are so loving and kind, and compared to German kids, they want to learn! I’ll never forget them!
Special thanks to Kevin for always being there when you need him! You’re amazing!
Also thank you to Noel and Vee! The hostel was awesome!
I volunteered for a month in a day care in Observatory and had the best experience. At first the overwhelming feelings of being nervous made me question what I was doing here in Cape Town, but it didn’t take long for me to realize this place would become home in just a couple weeks. From the beginning it was easy to adjust to living in the hostel and with the other volunteers, with the kindness of Noel and Vee who helped make it feel more like home. They welcomed me like one of their own, and immediately made me feel comfortable in the hostel. Noel was always there for us to ask him questions and explain things to me that I was unsure of. It was nice to have that kind of security when so far away from home. Kevin was so kind and welcoming as well. Although he wasn’t at the hostel everyday with us, every time he was there it was nothing but hugs and happiness to have him around! When you travel for so long and so far from home it’s nice to have people there for you who are beyond kind and welcoming… I couldn’t imagine my trip without them, and the amazing teachers of the day care I was at. Everyone was beyond nice and helpful and I loved every minute of it! Wishing I was already back there with everyone, until next time!
The time I spent in South Africa with this organisation has been some of the best. In so many ways. First of all the volunteer program couldn’t have been better. I enjoyed every second and really felt like I was helping where help was needed. But also on a personal level. It was beneficial to me just as much as them. The social side is amazing. The people are nice and there’s no better way to get some headspace. Work on yourself and to help those in need. It enabled me to make so many friends from across the globe. Some I’m certain will remain that way for years to come. And even those I didn’t stay in touch with I will always remember. The experience I had didn’t feel commercial or touristy at all. It was genuine and I loved every second of it.
I’m 53 years old and so grateful, that I was able to have this experience! I felt very safe and well taken care off by the lovely hosts Vee and Noël at the volunteer house! What a beautiful and fun home away from home!
Thank you very much!
My 4 weeks in Cape Town were amazing. I had the best time of my life and met so many people from all over the world. The program itself is ran by a group of organized and personable people who want the very best for you. Kev couldn’t have been more welcoming to me and was always there for any question or concern I had. I learned so much about myself and the world while volunteering at both the medical clinic and a preschool. The hostel was always clean and felt like home. Noel and Vee are two of the kindest people. I am so grateful for SASTS and everyone I met along the way who made my experience unforgettable. I can’t wait to bring all my family and friends back to the beautiful city of Cape Town one day!
